VMAs 2026 – The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards delivered a night packed with major performances, surprise moments and historic wins, with Madonna and Taylor Swift at the center of much of the attention.

Held Sunday, September 27, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the 2026 VMAs featured Snoop Dogg as host and brought together some of the biggest names in pop, hip-hop, K-pop, country and rock.

Madonna entered the ceremony as the night’s most-nominated artist and ultimately finished with seven awards. Taylor Swift also made VMA history while taking home Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia.”

Madonna Returns to the VMAs Stage After 23 Years

One of the most anticipated moments of the night came right at the beginning.

Madonna opened the 2026 VMAs with her first performance at the awards show in 23 years. Her last VMA performance was the famous 2003 opening with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

This time, Madonna returned with music from her latest era, including performances connected to Confessions II. Sabrina Carpenter joined her during the show, while Charli XCX also appeared as part of the performance.

Another emotional moment came when Kacey Musgraves paid tribute to Dolly Parton.
